The Advanced Training Seminar for New Technology in Geophysics was successfully held in Beijing

With the rapid development of exploration undertakings such as resource exploration, energy development and environmental monitoring in our country, geophysical exploration technology has been widely applied, and a large number of achievements have been made in fields such as oil and gas exploration, metal/non-metal mineral exploration, coalfield geological exploration, geothermal and hydrological investigation, engineering and environmental exploration, and disaster prevention and mitigation monitoring. To promote the advancement of new technologies and methods and enhance the application effect and research level of geophysical exploration technologies, The "Advanced Training Seminar for New Technology in Geophysics", hosted by the Earth Electromagnetic Professional Committee and the Geophysical Technical Committee of the Chinese Geophysical Society and organized by Hengda Century(Beijing) Geophysical Technology Co., LTD., was successfully held in Beijing from March 13th to 15th, 2014. A total of 288 people from 121 different organizations including the Geological Survey Bureau, Geology and Mineral Resources, Nonferrous Metals, metallurgy, coal fields, nuclear industry, railways, water conservancy, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Seismological Bureau, colleges and universities, and engineering organization attended the meeting, among whom 7 were representatives from abroad.

Researcher Liu Yuansheng, the deputy secretary-general of the Geophysical Society, delivered a speech on behalf of Secretary-General Guo Jian. Researcher Zhao Guoze, the executive director of the Geophysical Society and the director of the Earth Electromagnetic Professional Committee, on the basis of introducing the current development and application status of Earth electromagnetic methods in China, expressed his hope that colleagues in the field of electromagnetic geophysics would continue to make efforts to enable China to transform from a major country in the research and application of Earth electromagnetic methods to a powerful one as soon as possible. Researcher Sun Jinzhong, the director of the Geophysical Technology Committee, and others suggested making use of the platforms of professional committees and academic symposiums to exchange and promote the development of geophysical technology.

The conference invited experts with profound attainments in geophysical exploration technology and practical applications, such as Researcher Liu Shiyi, Professor Luo Yanzhong, Researcher Di Qingyun, and Chief Engineer He Zhanxiang, to give lectures on the research and application of geophysical exploration methods like electromagnetic methods in fields such as minerals, karst water, and oil and gas. Dr. Leo Fox, the president of Phoenix Geophysics Limited from Canada, and Dr. Jean Bernard, the president of IRIS Instruments from France, introduced the current research and application status and development trends of the world's earth electromagnetic technology. Experts and representatives from the Development Research Center of China Geological Survey, China University of Geosciences, Sinotech Minerals Exploration Co., Ltd., Anhui Institute of Exploration Technology, Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration Institute of Beijing Research Institute of Uranium Geology, Yangtze University, Geophysical Exploration Institute of China Metallurgical Geology Bureau, Hydrogeophysical Survey Team of China National Administration of Coal Geology, Henan Geological Survey Institute, Institute of Mineral Resources (Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences), Chengdu University of Technology, Institute of Geology and Geophysics (Chinese Academy of Sciences), BGP Inc. of China National Petroleum Corporation, Institute of Geology of China Earthquake Administration, and Hengda-Century (Beijing) Geophysics Technology Co., Ltd. respectively delivered targeted reports and provided guidance on the application effectiveness of new geophysical exploration technologies as well as key issues requiring attention during exploration implementation processes.

During the conference, Phoenix Geophysics Limited from Canada held a new product launch event - the MTU three-dimensional electromagnetic System, which achieved multi-channel and high-density three-dimensional electromagnetic exploration. The IRIS Instruments has launched the V-FULLWAVER three-dimensional high-power excitation system. This product adopts full-waveform data acquisition, making the identification of metal ore bodies more direct and accurate. At the same time, it expands the exploration depth. Moreover, the application of the digital seismograph single-channel single-detector of the American SI Company in engineering investigation has significantly improved the signal-to-noise ratio. During the conference, a demonstration was held outdoors. From the layout method to data collection, the conference representatives consulted and discussed on the spot, expressing strong expectations for the new product.

The representatives attending the meeting unanimously reflected that the meeting was highly targeted and attractive. The number of representatives attending the meeting each day exceeded 90% of the registered representatives. Although the meeting was short, the discussions and training showed obvious effects.
